I had about 5 ekgs, some blood work and chest xray and nothing was found. I get pains in my chest and my heart seems to flutter a lot. I am a 23 year old female, a little over weight and not very active. when i do something that requires a lot of movement i get the bad chest pains and then nausea. and sometimes if i am doing nothing i get the pains and my heart flutters. i have had the ekgs and blood work and chest xray nothing was found. Could there still be a problem with my heart?

  1. Absolutely!!!  An arrhythmia is when your heart beats irregular or too fast or slow.  An EKG shows exactly what your heart is doing at the moment that it is done.  If it's not giving you pain or a fluttering feeling nothing would show up on your ekg.  The blood work that is usually done for your heart is to see if there is any heart damage (Troponin, CK, & CKMB).  These blood tests will come back high usually high after a heart attack.  Overweight and low activity put you at a risk for heart disease.  I would not let my doctors off the hook yet.  Make a journal of what your doing when you feel your chest pain and or fluttering.  Put in the time and day.  See a cardiologist (heart specialist).  Your doctor can refer you to one.  If you have already seen one go again.  You may need to wear a heart monitor for awhile.  This will allow the doctors to see what is happening throughout the week and not at one certain time like with the EKG.  Also I've seen people as young as yourself have cardiac cauterization's to actually look at your arteries to see if there is any blockages.  Please email me if you have any more questions, because I have some more questions for you.  As a side note....have your Thyroid checked, as this could have something to do with this as well.  Good luck and take care.
