Can I add a line to a family plan and still get a free phone?

If I wanted a free enV2 from Verizon, it would have to come with a 2-year contract. For that contract, can I just add a line to an existing family plan and pay only $9.99 per month and still get the enV2 for free?

thats what we did for my att phone so i assume its the same for verizon.

Knowing Verizon very well, I would say probably not. Call the crazy people at customer service. Let me know what they say.
