Question:

Can I add a second processor to my computer?

I have recently purchased an Everex computer that was worth the money I paid for it but sucks on speed. Reason is its MS Windows Vista SP1, but running VIA Processor 1500 MHz, and only 512 MB RAM. I have my Compaq computer that I use to use before purchasing this one. The Compaq desktop is Windows XP, 1500 MHz and 512 MB of memory too. Can I put the Compaq's processor and memory into the new everex computer to make it go faster? I know it probably wouldn't be recommended, but is it possible without causing massive problems down the road. Any help is appreciated. Easy ten points for a good answer. Thanks! :-)

  1. Second socket for another cpu? Pretty strange unless it's a server computer, or one of the new Intel Skulltrail motherboards. But Hey!

You otta' know! You're looking at this computer's motherboard!

Processors have to match the support of the motherboard. Things you need to know,

1.First and foremost, what processor socket does the VIA C7 1.5GHz cpu use? It uses the Socket 479.

    A.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VIA_C7

    B.More info on VIA's C7.

    C.Socket 479: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_479

Compaq uses Intel or AMD processors. Only Intel uses the Socket 479, besides VIA it appears, and that is for their mobile processors.

So to conclude, my answer would be No, to the processor.

    Ram memory?

What are the ram memory specifications for the Everex computer?

1.What type of ram does it use?

    2.What frequency speed?

3.What is the TOTAL Maximum amount of ram for the motherboard?

4.What is the Maximum ram amount for each ram slot?

These are a few things you need to know.

I suggest you go to Crucial.com, and look up both computer's ram.

See if they are compatible with each other.

When you are looking up specs for the Everex computers ram, just click on the 'Scan My System' button on Crucial's homepage. This will scan your Everex computer, and tell you 1 through 4 above.

Edit: So is this 3 sticks of 256MB's?  768MB total then.

Not strange! Many of the older computers had three ram slots. Don't believe this computer will support Dual Channel configuration for ram memory, then! (It's been proven by Tomshardware.com, that Dual Channel is Overrated! You usually only get a 1 to 2% increase in ram performance, anyway!)

  2. It's very unlikely that you can put a second CPU in your current computer. There are computers that have two CPU sockets on the motherboard but these are not common especially in a desktop PC. The memory is another story, if it's the same type then you can put it in your new machine.

  3. think you are ok with it and it is better to put at list 1gb memory and vista really y it sucks and swallow  memory too good luck

  4. you can only add another CPU if you have a skulltrail motherboard which allows 2 processors, if you don't you cannot add another processor.

  5. No, you cannot add an additional processor to your system, as every system has a motherboard and the mother board has only one slot for a cpu and as u already have a cpu on ur everex computer you cannot add another one on it, what you can do is replace it with a better cpu which you can buy .

But that too depends on your motherboard so dont go out and buy any cpu, check what cpu your motherboard can support and buy tht

  6. i doubt it!

i dont think that is possible.beacuse for 2 CPUs to work at the same time you need dual core mother boards.and they are usally fast and need a lot of ram.1 or 2 GB maybe.and plus 1500mhz processors are weak.

  7. First thing, if the motherboard does not have two sockets, you will not be able to put the second processor in. Secondly, in dual processor systems, the processors must be identical versions. If the processors are from different manufacturers, the odds are against this. The memory may be used if you have open sockets, and if the memory is the same type (i.e. ddr, ddr2) and speed(333mhz, 400mhz).

  8. there are some flaws with this first are the processors the same socket? if so then yes you can as for the ram probable not unless your new computer can handle the memory which i dont think it will because the compaq is most likely compaq memory and not supported by anything else but compaq

  9. A friend of mine who is a pc tech

    Told me about http://www.pchelpdoc.com

There is tons of free help there!

    Goodluck!
