Question:

Can I add a subpanel 75 feet away from main panel and what wire should I use?

I want at least 60 amps, it will be a a small work shop and I need 220V/35AMPS for a arc welder. Please recomend me a wire size it will run in conduct and the runing distance it is at least 75' long.

  1. I *think* you would use 3 - #6 THHN wire (if you need a neutral; 2 if you don't).  There's also the question of your main panel supporting it.

    If you come across this from time to time, get an Ugly book - it's got all the answers.

    Do NOT add a separate grund rod to the subpanel in the shop.

    Use the existing ground located at the main panel.

  3. 60a sub-panel, wire type- # 6 ser,that has (4) #6 wires. two hot, 1 neutral, and one ground. in the sub panel the neutral and ground go to separate  bars. in the main panel they both land on the same bar. the same grounding also goes for all the branch wires feeding out of the sub-panel. neutral and ground must remain separate.
