I have a 2001 magnovox television, however, there is no CATV/TV option.....does this mean that it can never have cable attached

I have an RF modulator....if I connect it to the television and cable, would I be able to see cable on the television with out having to set a CATV/TV option?

  1. You need a TV Tuner to convert the cable signal so that the TV can use it. Most older, and still some of the newer one, have this built in. You'll need to buy and external one in order to get basic cable or get a set top box from your cable provider (which will have a tuner in it). A lot of VCRs have one built in to them also.

Here is an example of an external tuner.

  2. Most people these days are going with satellite.  HD in the US is mandatory next  February 2009.

Talk to your satellite providers.  They are more than willing to talk specifics and set up in your area.  I have Dish and my neighbors have Direct TV.  It depends on your preferences.
