Can I add motion detection to my Sony handy cam?

I have a digital handycam is there any way I can add a feture or product to put it on motion detection.

There's nothing you could buy off the shelf.  You could possibly rig the switch with a PIR detector, but the startup time would probably make it a pointless exercise - the subject would be gone before you started recording.

TELL US THE MODEL!!!!!!

If it has a LANC socket (looks like minijack jocket,usually with a blue plastic surround) then keene electronics can sell you a PIR motion trigger.

I can't tell you if you have a lanc socket because you haven't told us the model number.

If you had told us the model number I could have told you if the camera had a lanc socket.

But we have no way of knowing if the camera has a lanc socket, as you didn't tell us the model number.
