Can I add my pregnant fiance to my medical insurance once we're married?

I have Aetna. She's just about 5 months pregnant, she was going to get dropped from her insurance and she is currently on medi-cal for the prenatal care. Is it too late to add her to my plan for her to be covered during the rest of the pregnancy?

I tried calling Aetna right now but the it was past closing time lol

  1. Depending on the rules of your company, you might be able to add her now if you're living together.  (We have Aetna and partners are covered, but it varies depending on the company policy.)

However, her pregnancy will be a pre-existing condition and although it will be covered it might cost a whopping heck of a lot more to get prenatal coverage.

  2. If your Aetna coverage is on an individual policy you will not be able to add her.

If your Aetna is a group plan you can add her once you are married and the pregnancy will be covered 100%. Group insurance does not have a pre-existing conditions clause.

  3. If you get married you will be able to add her, you can also add the baby it's born

  4. Once you marry her, it's a qualifying event, and you can add her to your coverage - but you have to do it within 30 days of the event.
