Can I add salt to my above ground pool without using a saltwater pump?

I have a 10 ft by 30 in above ground pool, and I was thinking about using salt as the cleaning method, because i don't like chlorine. Does anyone know if I can just pour salt into my pool without having one of those 300 dollar pumps that makes your pool a saltwater pool? If so, what type of salt, and how much salt per gallon? Thanks

the pump should be fine but the salt wont do anything unless you have a chlorine generator that turns the salt into chlorine
