Question:

Can I afford to move out?

I have gone over this this question over and over for the past year.

I'm 19, I have a job that pays $6.55 an hour, but am getting a promotion that will give me $7.30 an hour. I work an average of 25 hours a week, and I am going to start back at school in late August. I averaged the total deduction percentage to be about 17% per check.

And I have no idea how much my rent would be either.

I don't know if I could get help with paying rent or not, or any other kind of assistance because I am single and don't have any kids.

And it's not like I plan on moving out tomorrow. I have to save up some money before I can even think about stepping foot out of the comfort zone of my parents house.

Thanks for all of your help!

  1. What state do you stay. because you can't pay rent and bills with that you'll need a better paying job

  2. Yes, please go back to school and take some economics classes.

You will clear $600 and month. You must pay:

    tuition

    books

    supplies

    car

    gas

    insurance

    maintenance

    food

    cigarettes

    cell phone

    clothes

    "personal" items

to this you wish to add:

    rent

    gas

    electricity

    internet

    cable/satellite

P.S. Please don't make any babies.

  3. With your salary, you may not be able to afford to move out just yet. Depending where you live, renting can be very expensive. I am currently paying $850/mo for a one bedroom apartment - and that's a steal! Don't forget pge, cable, internet, food and personal items.

I think it's great that you are planning on saving up money - but you may also consider finding a better paying job. Would that be an option for you? Administrative/clerical positions would be perfect for you!

If you do not know where to start looking, try working with employment agencies in your area. They will help you find a job that suits you!

    Goodluck :)

I just read your additional notes there. $200/mo apartment? That is amazing! LOL! Well back to your question, yes why not? Just write down all your expected bills. Make sure you have enough for rainy days. But other than that - I think you could afford it. Yay!

  4. I am going to have to say no...depending on where you live average rent in the US is $750 a month....you cannot afford that on your budget, when you get out of school and start working full time then you might be able to afford it

  5. Simply no. Your monthly bills (rent, electric, food, t.v/internet) will be larger than your income.

You will not be able to find an apartment for $200 a month unless its a rat hole. It will cost at least 600, maybe less in some sub par areas.

Just live with your parents a little longer and get a better paying job and then move out, or why not try college dorms.
