Question:

Can I allow anyone to send email to my Yahoo Group?

I would like to use my private group (just me and my wife) as a mailing list. For example, I would like to have our online accounts send email to the Yahoo group, so that it automatically gets sent to both of our individual email accounts. I could not find free mail lists on the web, so I was hoping to use Yahoo Groups as a mail list. However, if mail is sent by someone not in the group, the mail gets bounced.

Is it possible to change the group settings to allow mail from anyone? Yes, I realize that this could lead to a SPAM problem, but that would be true for any mail list.

Alternatively, if you know of a free mail list service on the web, please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

  1. Did you know that a member of a Yahoo Group can post a message to the Group from the e-mail address he/she has associated with the Group (see the upper half of the page at my Source link below)?  And that if you and your wife are both set to Individual Emails, the post will be delivered to both of your e-mail addresses?  It seems to me like this way, you wouldn't need to change the Group settings so that anyone can post.

If you want to change the Group settings in this way anyway, then log in to your Group's web site.  Then click on Management on the left-hand side of the page.  Then click on Messages in the Group Settings section (towards the upper-right-hand corner).  Then click the Edit link next to Posting And Archives.  Then select Anyone in the Who Can Post column of the table.  Don't forget to click the Save Changes button when you're done.
