Question:

Can I apply and receive a masters in criminology without a bachelor's degree in psychology/sociology?

I have a BA degree in political science. I want to attend law school eventually (next 2, 3 years) but I feel like I don't have the qualifications to get accepted to a tier 2 law school. Also, I think I'd like to pursue a career with the FBI or some other federal/state law enforcement agency. Long story short, do you think it'd be possible to be accepted into a criminology masters program with a political science background and bachelors?

  1. It's possible but you'd probably have to take the GRE subject test before you apply.

  2. Certainly you can apply for a Master's in Criminology from another discipline - a friend of mine came in with a bio degree.  Each university have different requirements, but largely they will look at your grades and general GRE (there is no subject test for Criminology - see below)

It does seem like a round about way to go to Law School if that is your main objective, but it is commendable that you are pursuing grad studies.  Good luck!
