I am adding a decal to an outboard cowling that I plan to paint with a base coat/clearcoat paint system. I am not sure if the decal will wrinkle or desolve if I apply the decal to the base coat and paint over it with clear? The paint is from NAPA.

  1. Yes, you can clearcoat over vinyl graphics. Sand the basecoat as directed before applying graphics. DO NOT sand the graphics. Then spray the clearcoat.

  2. Yes you can apply a clear coat over it.  My husband and I repainted his motorcycle and put vinyl lettering over the existing lettering that was under the base coat.  We clear coated it and it has lasted several years.  no bubbles or wrinkles.  Just make sure you get the lettering on there straight because you dont want to mess the base coat up by having to peel and reapply the lettering.
