Can I apply for a GC from a different employer from L1A?

Can anyone help me with the following details.

I am here in US on a L1A visa. Prior to this I worked for the same company in the home country for about 1.5 years. I cam here to the states 4 months ago. Meanwhile another employer wants to absorb me in his organization. Since I am tied with L1A I cannot change the company. Also my current employer does not provide any documents to apply for a Green Card. My new employer is willing to do the needful if it is legally allowed by the government to apply the green card from their company. Can anybody suggest what is the best course of action for me or my new employer now. The employer who offered me a job does not have an office in my home country.

  1. To get L1 status you need to work for the company for a minimum of a year outside the US (in any country) within the last 5 years so that you can qualify for the transfer... if the new comany doesn't have an office outside the USA they can't sponsor you for an L1 visa.  They could sponsor you for an H1B visa depending on your job and your qualifications  and from there you can apply for a greencard..... but getting a green card is hard as you have to go through labor certification (A step you can bypass if you go from L1 to a greencard)
