I am from australia and am finding it difficult to answer the above question from the homeoffice site.

I have worked for 2 years in England on a working holiday permit (I was allowed to work the 2 years, not 1), and now I am on a highly skilled and I plan to extened it at the end of this year for another 2 years - So i will have a total of 4 years on the HSMP.

Does it include the working holiday years?

Thanks.

  1. no

you must apply for indefinite leave to remain in UK first.

you are still only a temporary worker.

Once you have applied for and been appoved for LTR then you must stay in UK for 3 years before you can apply for citizenship.

  2. NO.

Only period spent as HSMP will be counted towards settlement. You need to live in UK as High skilled migrant for 5 years to qualify for citizenship. Tier1 or HSMP based workers don't have to wait for 3 years after ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain) , instead they can start the procedure pretty much immediately for citizenship after their ILR is approved.
