Can I apply for an Italian visa online?

Question

I am CANADIAN and want to spend min 6 mnths in Italy. This time frame is not eligible for a working holiday visa or a schengen visa.

Is there ANY way I can spend one year in Italy (legally) and since I don't have a consulate nearby, can I apply online?

Any info would be appreciated!

you cannot stay in Italy for a year, unless, you were to study,work,business, etc.

you must have some legal reason, in order to get a visa to stay that long,

Visa application must be applied at the nearest embassy of a country issuing a Schengen visa.
