  1. The place to go is to the state agency that is putting the children in your home.  Negotiate for monthly subsidy from them.

  2. You may not qualify for Food Stamps, but you might for WIC.  If the kids are younger, 5 or less, it isn't that hard to qualify, espcially if they are already on Medicaid.

WIC gives you coupons to get milk, eggs, beans, cereal, juice, etc for free.  Given the price of milk these days, it can be a real help (our boys go through a gallon a week each).

Contact your local WIC office.  You have to jump through a few hoops, but it is worth it.

  3. If you make too much money with 9 people in the home, none of you NEED food stamps.  Period.  If you can provide for nine people, count yourself blessed.

*I wasn't offended, if you thought I was one of the offended ones.  I TOTALLY understand being afraid of not being able to support your family.  It's just that I am a SAHM to two young kids, my hubby makes 30K a year, and we do fine- we live in a small two bedroom house, we have two used cars (that aren't bad at all) our kids wear used or clearance clothing (but still look super cute!), and I shop and cook very carefully to make the most bang for our buck.   I just hate to see people talk about not having any money when I know if we had that much, we'd live like kings!  I'm sure you'll get the hang of it.

Hang in there, you're doing a great thing by wanting the best for your family~

  4. It almost sounds to me as if there may be some concern about resentment because you will be using his pay to provide for the kids? I could totally be wrong here, but it would be understandable. But that's a different question then, right?

Really, i don't think it will actually end up being much more expensive to provide food for two more children. And the other expenses should be covered by whatever the state is going to provide in the way of money.

Good luck to you, and blessings.

  5. The state SHOULD be giving you money.  There are programs available through the state for Kinship Care (where the state places children in homes of relatives).  My son was placed in Kinship Care with his bio grandparents before he lived with us, and they were not aware that they were entitled to money to help with costs.  However, they did receive some type of assistance for his formula at the time.  The children should also qualify for medical assistance.

I completely understand your concerns and your fears.  You are doing a wonderful thing here by opening your heart, your family, and your home.  Good for you.  Definitely look into what programs are available for you.  Contact the kids' case worker if you need to.  Or try contacting someone in the Military that might be able to provide assistance with these questions.

If you continue through kinship care to adopting the children, you can also apply for a one-time adoption assistance through your state.  If the children have special medical needs, they may qualify for a monthly stipend as well.  You will need to contact your local Dept of Human Services for more information on those programs.

Good luck to you and your family.

  6. I think they take the income and the amount of people living in the house and go from there.

  7. Yes go ahead and ppl that really need it wont get it , like me making 9 dollars an hour with 2 kids i cant get it but u should after all let just take care of the rich while in the mean time we got our water shut off yesterday and are about to lose my car me and my kids don't need help its ppl like u who do

  8. No, unfortunately since it is based on the household income, I don't think you can receive food stamps. Not positive on that though, you might just call the local office?

However, you have other options for help.  Alot of churches have food pantries - and there might be a local food bank in your area.  You might call 211 (like 911 but with a 2) - ask them for any referrals they might have.  If the # doesn't work, call your local united way.  Or, just start calling churches and asking for help.  You might also be able to get help with clothing, sometimes diapers, and more.

  9. If you haven't applied for stamps WITH your nieces and nephews on the app yet, do it.  With 9 in the household your qualification may change.  If any of them are under 5 years old, apply for WIC, too.  Their standards aren't as high as DHS.  Its only milk, peanut butter, eggs, cereal, juice and cheese, but it HELPS!

  10. if you are not able to make a living yes your husband will never make enough to support 9, you do what you can to get the help you need.

  11. You can't apply for just a few person's on the home. You have to be honest about every person that lives in the house. If the state placed the children in your home, the state should be sending you money to cover the expense of those kids. What in the world does your husband do that he makes enough money to cover 9 dependants???

  12. d**n girly hubby makes good money...i would go apply and just not put hubby down..i think thats legal but i dunno !

  13. no you have to apply for everyone in the home and you have to use your income as the guide.  Start looking at cupons making casserols, cheaper grocey store and wearhouse clubs to save money on food.  Also if you don't do it already stop eating out

  14. If the state is placing them in your home, you should be able to get some kind of help from the state.  Usually kinship care payments are around 250-300 hundred dollars a month per child.  I can relate, I adopted 5 children on top of our 3 natural children.  It can be a little scary!  But you learn to cook more economically, and cut corners where you can, and it all works out!!
