I would eventually relocate to that state once I was financially able if it is in commuting distance. Naturally I would relocate if it was not in commuting distance

  1. Yes.  Very few state government jobs require in-state residency.

  2. Some states probably do have laws about residency of state employees, but I don't think they all do. So basically it depends on where you're applying for a job.

  3. Thank goodness in this Country, you are allowed to apply for jobs any where you choose.

Apply for all jobs you are even closely qualified for, and good luck in getting one!!!

Do not hesitate to ask for relocating expenses - don't make the job acceptance depending on this issue; but, ask for them.  You don't get what you don't ask for.  You may be just the person that your neighboring state is looking for and they would be willing to pay your moving expenses to get you there.

Good Luck!  Luck often goes to the person who has the courage to ask for what he needs.

  4. Unless there is a requirement posted in the advertisment, you can apply for any job and be interviewed.  Go for it.  Just keep in mind, most gov't job don't pay for relocating (except for military members).
