Question:

Can I ask a massage therapist for a "custom" massage?

Ive had a massage or two before and I had just seen a therapist the other day who was really good. I want to ask her if she could just massage only my scalp, face, ears and hands for an hour. Would that insult her?Should i mention this before the session? To me, those areas are the best part-she massaged both hands and every finger for only 2 minutes and rubbed all over and up in my ears for 20 seconds and when she had got to my head i had already dossed off. I dont talkt much durring my massage, is that normal? I tend to fall asleep right away. Anyways, just wondering if i could ask for this or if she has to go by a procedure. I dont want to offend her in anyways, just want her to do my hands and arms for 30 minutes and my whole head, ears and face for 30 minutes.

  1. It might insult her if you ask for a happy ending.  Other then that if you are paying then you should get what you want and need.  It is a business.

  2. As a massage therapist, I always ask my client if there are any areas they want worked on more or any areas that they don't want worked on. Being a massage therapist I always wan't the work focased on my back, neck and arms. I skip the legs. You just need to tell her before. This shouldn't insult her, I mean you are paying for a 2nd massage. Always remember that you are in charge of your massage.

Not talking during your massage is VERY normal. I like when my clients just get on the table and relax. Even if you fall asleep your body is still recieving the work. They say if you fall asleep during an one hour massage it's like taking a 4 hour nap! That's FANTASTIC!!

  3. I don't see anything wrong with asking for that.

  4. You're the client and the one paying...she should not be offended if you make a special request (as long as it is not sexual in any way--this is the only thing they may be offended by and will probabaly send you on your way).

When I go to the Massage Therapist I tell her to only work on my neck, upper back and face.

Tell her up front where you would like to concentrate massage.

It's not unusual to just fall asleep. It shows that you are very relaxed.

  5. Sure you can ask her. People do it all the time, it's normal.
