Question:

Can I ask my landlord to get an exterminator if I've only seen 1 bug?? ....

I have what appears to be a HUGE house centipede in my kitchen, and it crawled under my stove so I can't get to it. Does it have to be a full fledged infestation to justify getting my apartment to call an exterminator?

  1. You can ask the landlord to hire an exterminator, however, he would be insane to do so over one centipede.

Buy a can of bug spray or stomp on it!

  2. You can ask, but I wouldn't approve it. Get it done on your own or get some spray.

  3. As a landlord I want to address anything that concerns you.  Happy tenants pay rent on time unhappy ones don't.  I spray my own properties with bug spray from Lowes.  I mix it a little stronger for the outside than the inside.  I spray around the whole house inside and out.  I just built my home and it is the middle of the woods.  I needed a bulldozer to clear areas before I could build.  We had bugs a t first but after spraying with the store bought stuff we have had none.

My advice is call your landlord and if he won't help do it your self.

  4. Probably not. You are having a problem with bugs getting in, you wouldnt want to spray your whole house if your not having any major issues, do as the other guy said and buy some raid.

  5. Don't you have any Raid?   3.99 and you can do this yourself.

  6. In my lease, tenants are responsible for exterminating.  It should be stated on your lease, check it.  We have exterminated in some cases, if there is a risk that it could affect the whole building.  Such as the case we had recently with bed bugs and roaches...UGH!!  But with a centipede, you should probably go out and just buy bug spray (make sure it is for centipedes) and spray it yourself.  You are lucky that is the only bug you have seen!

  7. You can ask him for anything you want. That doesn't mean he will honor your request.
