Can i attend a local college's classes.. maybe get certifications in something. I am quite interested in Real Estate. (We will be getting married in a few years so I'd be able to work!)

Any advice please let me know! Thanks!

  1. No SS# will not qualify you for financial aid

  2. Well, if you want to stay in the US with your partner for more than a few months, getting an F1 would probably work better for you than a B2, assuming you actually intend to go to class and get your certification or whatever. So, why don't you want to get an F1? Why do you think a B2 works better for you?

Edit: The tourist visa can be used over a 10 year period, but it doesn't allow you to remain in the US for 10 years. If you try that, you're going to have all sorts of problems. Normally, you can stay in the US for 6 months on a tourist visa. You can ask for an extension through USCIS, but you need to apply well in advance before your authorized stay expires. If they grant you an extension, you're not likely to get another one without a serious reason. Plus, you can't do six months here, leave the US and come back a week or two later. Do that more than once and US immigration will cancel your visa and send you back home. Authorized stays on student visas are normally for duration of status, or you can remain in the US while you are in class and retain your student status. So, you could stay for 4 years on a BA and if you continued onto a Ph'd program, you could, at least in theory remain in the US for 8 years or more.  So, if you're going to go to school anyway, that should actually work out much better for  you, or it should. You could always apply to change status to F1 through USCIS, but if you leave the US and want to return to class, you would need an F1 visa to return.

  3. im pretty sure people without social security numbers or us citizenship can attend college in the us. i used to be a work study in a university with a large number of international students and illegal aliens. dont quote me on this, i worked with the department of international programs for only 5 months, but....if you are illegal here in the US then you CAN go to school under the noriega bill, which allows illegals to be in the us LEGALLY IF THEY ARE ENROLLED IN COLLEGE. i have seen students come in and out of the office who were in the US illegally, and working on their masters in business. there is also another way, but requires you to pay more tuition, closely compared to a university or college in mexico or any other country. this will give you a visa, not sure what type of visa, but will give you permission to be in the united states WHILE YOU EARN YOUR DEGREE. after the degree is earned, you have to go back, or apply for a CEVIS? which (again, dont quote me on this) is permision to work in the united states, as long as the goverment knows where you will be living, and working. any changes in adress must be reported to the department of international programs of the school from wich you graduated, or you will be deported.

again, dont quote me on this, but i am sure most of this information is acurate, as i worked helping put together visas and passports for students.

    hope this helps!

PS: you CAN qualify for financial aid. there are grants and scholarships available to ALL students. your best bet would be to attain a scholarship, as they require the least paper work.

  4. Generally no, a B2 visa is a tourist visa. However if you want to take a short course of study of less then 18 hours per week, then you may be able to do so on your B2 visa, but the course must be non-credit i.e. no degree at the end of it.

You should of course, inquire with either the USCIS, the U.S> Embassy or Consulate in your country of residence and the international student adviser at the college you are interested in about weather or not the program you are interested in meets the requirements for studying on a B2.

  5. you need to go to the college, which u would like to join and ask information regarding this.....probably they wont allow it seems
