I now have an HD TV and want to add Direct TV HD service. Even though I have been a Direct TV subscriber for over 3 years, they want to charge me $99 for the HD receiver and installation, plus sign a 2 year contract. My question is this. . . Is it possible to cancel my service and then have my wife sign up for new service so that we can get the new subscriber deal? The new subscriber deal includes free HD DVR receiver, installation, plus 4 months premium channels.

  1. Phone Direct TV and tell the rep you are going to disconnect service. When they ask you why, tell them you have seen better deals available. Then immediately tell them that if they want to retain you as a customer, they need to pass you from Customer Service to the Customer Retention department. They might offer you the new subscriber deal to retain you as a customer.

  2. No, I suspect it's your address that counts and note the name.

What you can do is find another "new" offer from another supplier (att or cable) and tell Direct this is what they'll charge me will you match?   Now, you should be prepared to change if they say no...

    GL!

  3. Maybe if she uses a different last name and says she just moved in.

  4. squirrel has the right idea. We have done that before. They usually want to keep existing customers.
