Can I be a firefighter with a sealed narcotic felony (my first offense) and I completed drug diversion prog?

  1. As long it is your only offense...with a waiver and a lot of references...it is possible.  It maybe a hard fight, but it is possible if you have the skills and complete the school.

    Go to the local human resources office for your city and see what the requirements are and the disqualifications are.  Some are strict about this and as long as full disclosure is given, you should be ok in some departments.  Just be totally honest about the whole issue and situation.

    And to John S...trustworthy is big in city services...and with a prior felony...in narcotics....some city fire departments have their EMS services combined.  Therefore you have access to certain drugs that make this something that is scrutinized.  Not to say you are not a great person now and just made a mistake...it's just something they look at.  I know to go to EMS school and to work for EMS...this is looked at when you get certified or licensed.  And you will have to get a waiver for this in EMS...and most Firefighters are at the minimum EMT certified.
