Question:

Can I be a pilot and ATC?

I want to be an airline pilot but the industry doesn't look good. I'm sure it will be even worse in 7 years. I was thinking either Corporate Pilot or ATC. Is it possible to do both? Be a full time corporate pilot and work part time as ATC at like a general aviation airport?

Thanks!

  1. No the industry for an <Airline> pilot does not... but there are tons of other jobs in the industry of Aviation... As far as the ATC goes you must know that that is tons of stress and you will probablly not be doing it long. There are many planes your talking to at once and if you dont talk when you have to there could be a problem. I don't know why you couldnt be an airline pilot and an atc. You may want to look into it some more. Just remember, there are many jobs in Aviation out there. It requires many hours, time, and money to become an airline pilot...try around 1000.

  2. if you were to be an airline pilot or any pilot that would allow you military leave you could be an air traffic controller in the guard where they have bases for that position....

  3. sure you can but you have to have experience. what are you goign to do to get this/ are you going into military or what. its hard to get good experience unless you are in the military which is way to get it and you need to go into military as an aoofice and fight like hard.

  4. Being a pilot or an ATC both require separate licenses issued by the FAA.  If you do what is needed and get both licenses, there is no reason why (except crew rest requirements) you cannot do both.

Crew rest is mandatory times you must get the required rest to insure alertness during active license usage.  Most require at least 8 to 10 hours.

There is also a limit that you are allowed to active license usage time wise. (successive hours)

  5. you can be a pilot if you study hard and focus to your studies.

  6. The industry doesn't look good?  What are you talking about?  There are so many jobs for pilots right now, it's not funny.

But, yes, it probably will be more difficult in 7 years.

I don't think you can work full-time as a pilot, plus part-time as ATC.

Both positions have very strict rules about how many hours you can work within a certain time period.

ATC is one of the most stressful jobs around.
