A few months ago I moved from Virginia to New York. However, I just got a Jury Duty Notice from Virginia in the mail. Can they do that? Do I still have to go?

  1. No. But you do have to inform them. Better send it certified mail, unless they have an e-mail address and save a dated copy to verify.

  2. You got the notice because they still have your old address. Change your address on voter registration and drivers license. If you have changed your address through the post office send the court a copy of that along with the jury notice.

  3. No,if you have proof of your new residency, then you should not be obligated to serve in Virginia's jury selection.

  4. Have you changed your voter registration yet, or obtained a New York drivers license, and relinquished your Virginia license?

Write them a letter, and show them proof of your change of address. I think a utility bill would suffice.

Then make sure you update all your records!

    Happy New Year!

  5. Send a reply back, showing proof of residency change, and that you are no longer a resident of the county of origin of the Jury Summons.
