I recently lost my job, and am currently receiving unemployment benefits. To make matters worse, I recently had to junk my 13 yr old car. Can I be disqualified from receiving benefits if I no longer own a car, and instead will be utilizing public transportation in my job search?

  1. First of all- sorry to hear about your situation. I hope things improve for you soon; there are so many of people out there in similiar situations.

Not owning a car does not mean you are not looking for work-so I dont believe it would have any factor in your unemployment benefits. It shows the state know how hard you are working to find a job- knowing you have a tougher commute. good luck and be glad you dont have to pay for gas at the pump (for the time being)

  2. Actually, a lot of employment departments will give you bus/train tickets to help you in your job search.  Ask your worker.  Good luck  :)

  3. No, the form doesn't ask if you own a car.  It only asks if you looked for work.  You can do it by bus, walking or even the phone in some cases...
