I live in PA and my 23 year old son has his own car and own car insurance and lives in my household. If he drops his insurance and is in an accident, could my personal assets be at risk for damages to other person involved in accident with him just because he lives with me?

  1. Using the SE like google or yahoo to get some hints first if you want to obtain the massive information,if you do not want to spend too much time, here is a good resource for your reference about your questions.http://car-insurance.easyideas4u.info/ca...

  2. i dont think so, just because your son lives with you dosnt make him ur liability. if a 3 freinds share a house and one dude goes to jail for something the other 2 dont get in trouble. so you should be fine,

  3. Call your insurance to find out for sure.  And get their explanation in writing.  This is something I wouldn't want to find out about at the wrong time.

  4. if the house is not under his name, no your assets are not at risk

  5. You probably need to put your son as an exclusion on your car policies. If he has access to the vehicles, your insurance company can require he be covered, if not, excluded. If he drives one of your cars and is in an accident, you can be held liable, as the registered/legal owner of the car. Your home can even be at risk, depending on damages. Not all states are the same, the five or so I've lived in have all had this law though.

  6. Yes.  It's not as automatic as it would be if he were a minor, but you COULD still get held responsible in a court.
