also, if i choose to go to school to take all of the standardized testings we are put through each year, is there any way I can get an official diploma? I realize that a GED given by the homeschooling system is considered equivelant, but i really dislike the stigma that surrounds it. My family is considering homeschooling me for my last 2 years of highschool education, and id like to know if there is any way i can still obtain an accedited diploma and possible be able to walk with my class (but more-so im worried about the diploma).

thankyou for any help you can give :)

  1. You should contact your local school board of education. There is usually a person assigned to home-bound students maybe they could help you also.

  2. First, you do not need a GED.  Your parents or the program you go through for your curriculum can issue you a diploma.  A diploma is just a decoration that shows you completed something-much more important will be your ACT/SAT scores, your transcripts, etc.

However, if you are not doing "true" homeschooling, but rather attending a virtual school, you may be able to get a public school diploma and "walk" at your local public school-you should call FLVS and ask.  Or, check their website-they might have the anwer there in a FAQ section.

Many homeschool support groups also have graduation ceremonies, and/or you can have your own without the local public school's involvement.  I remember going to my niece's high school graduation (from public school).  We sat in a colliseum for several hours, to hear her name called out in a row of hundreds of others-hardly personal at all.  She attended public school for 13 years for that minimal recognition?

  3. Before you go to online homeschooling, you should at least have a best friend, so that you could spend time with them. Even if you're popular, you should still be happy about your freedom and have a head start with life.  All you have to do is tell your parents to go to a school and then sign-up as "volunteer" and then walk around campus, make sure security doesn't throw you out, if you're stupid.
