Can I be in the delivery room?

My wife is having a c-section and will have to be put to sleep due to back problems. That's the only option we have been given.

Will they still let me in the delivery room?

  1. Chances are since she will be actually put under you will not be allowed in there.  I know a few people that had c-sections and 2 of them were put under and they said that the rules were the same as with other surgeries when a person is under, nobody but the Dr's and nurses are allowed in there.  They bring the baby for you to see once he/she is born and they will tell you how your wife is doing and you will see her when she wakes up up usually.

  2. Yes, it's good to have someone there for support especially the husband.

  3. Most likely.. but you will be rushed out heaven forbid anything goes wrong. Talk to your OBGYN before hand and ask if you have to take any classes becuase your wife will be "sleeping". You want your child to see at least one of your faces right away. Good luck and I hope everything does perfectly.

  4. yes but its not pretty

  5. The reason they allow someone to be in a c/s is for support to the mom, however, if the mom is under general anesthesia, she does not need the same support therefore, you will not be allowed to be in the room during the surgery

  6. They don't usually put you to sleep anymore for a c-section, just numb you from the waist down.  Wish I didn't have to be at my own.  Anyway, my husband had the option of being there and he chickened out and left me all alone.  Go for it!!!

  7. DEFINITELY IF YOU WANT TO BE.

  8. Yucko, bucko! Why would you want to see your wife getting sliced open with a giant knife?

    Some people, huh?

  9. No, I don't believe so. I know with mine they told me if they had to put me to sleep then my husband wouldn't be able to be in there. You're really better off calling the hospital she'll be delivering at and asking them for sure.

  10. i believe so...if you express your concern to the doctor im sure they will allow it! i dont see why not? nobody should have to miss out on that precious moment!! =)

  11. most likely

  12. I know they allowed my friends boyfriend in the room ( she had simaliar problems) however I think the hospital decides that...all hospitals are different

  13. As long as your wife says it's ok, they should let you

  14. probably not as there performing the actual surgery but i bet once they get the baby and start to stitch your wife up they will let you in

  15. ofcourse they will

  16. I think so yes

  17. Yes, you and your wife insist on it before the day.  Even if you don't, father's are always allowed unless there is an emergency c-section and the father doesn't have time to change clothing.
