Question:

Can I be ticketed for an expired vehicle registration in a different state? (see details)?

To be generic, I live in state A. My vehicle registration goes until June. I have until July 31 to renew my registration and get an updated sticker before my state enforces it. However, state B begins enforcement on July 1. If I am driving through state B on July 10th with a not yet renewed registration sticker, can I be ticketed?

This hasn't happened but it is certainly possible that it could since I live in state A and most of my family in state B.

  1. Anytime you drive through a jurisdiction, you are subject to the local and/or state laws of that area.Even though your home state is generous and allows a 30 day grace period for renewal, MOST states consider tags to be expired after midnight of the last day of the registered month. After that time period, you have not paid for the right to drive on public roads.

I hope this helps and you can find it useful

  2. yes you can still get a ticket in both states the grace period is just before they suspend your license for not renewing your tag it does not mean you can not get a ticket for an expired tag if it is expired then its expired
