I was born in Canada in 1985. My dad was born in England in 55 - he is a dual citizen with the UK and Canada.

I was recently told that I could become a dual citizen by decent so I started to look into it.

It says there that they have to be married. If they are not my dad can apply... but only if I am under 18. I am 22.

I called them and they told me upfront the answer is no but there are loop holes that I may be able to go through and they gave me this site: http://ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/ I can't find much on there that is any clearer.

So does anyone know?

  1. In the british system, you can receive a british nationality biologically. Since one of your biological parents is british, you would have no problem i think receiving it

  2. Hmmm

  3. I think you are entitle to apply for either citizenship you want.

But I am not sure if those two country allow duel citizenships.
