I read somewhere that the residency requirement for applying for French citizenship can be waived if you are a citizen of a French speaking country (such as Canada?). Is this true?

  1. no.

  2. Not exactly. If you are a citizen of a former French colony, you are guaranteed French citizenship if you apply. However, you will still have to undergo an extraordinarily long and difficult process.

Of course, you could always marry a French person. Or enter the French Foreign Legion. I'm not kidding; one tour of duty in the toughest military force in the world and you will become a French citizen automatically.

  3. there is still a process

  4. Yes!

  5. If you have a degree, the residence requirement is only 2 years.  If you join the French Foreign Legion, you can request French citizenship after 3 years service, if you have good character, and have regularised to your true identity.  I didn't find anything about the benefit other citizenships would have on gaining French citizenship.
