  4. Yes, but becoming a commercial pilot would be faster and easier. If you decide to do the military route and are part of a flight crew but not a pilot you may be able to use your logged hours to substitute up to half of the 1500 flight hours required to get your ATP certification, which allows you to fly airliners.

    A Commercial rating is below an ATP and has limited options, but it would still be cheaper and faster to get your commercial rating and work up to an ATP, and you would have more seniority because you would have more years of flying.
