  1. Typing while listening is difficult at first but with the right hardware and software you can control the recorded dictation as you type.

A medical transcription service will probably require experience, but a physician's office may not.

You can also get real physician dictations with answer keys on the website below. You can test yourself while learning additional terminology. One book of terms will definitely not be enough.

  2. i knew one girl who met a doctor at church and he hired her to work from home.

her job was much easier with only one doctor.  the hospital was just too difficult with so many accents, daily quotas and other factors.

  3. If you have a decent typing speed, but don't have experience in medical transcription, you could try interview transcription. I work as a freelance transcriptionist, transcribing interviews, dictation, conference calls, seminars, family counseling sessions etc..

You can read a little bit about getting started as a transcriptionist in the article that I posted below. The author includes the names of a few websites where you can pick up casual/ regular transcription work. (I work mainly through eLance, which is the most popular freelance marketplace).

    Good Luck

  4. You don't need a degree, but you do need experience.   Check at community college, hospitals to see about programs you could take.
