Can I become a truck driver and take my son on the road with me?

He's 7 and he home schools... and I was wondering if I became a truck driver could I take him with me sometimes?

  2. In my experience, most trucking companies will not allow a driver to take any passenger under 13 (even your own children) on the road with them. It's an insurance thing and they don't want to be held responsible for anything that could happen because of a child being in the truck. For passengers over 13, you have to purchase rider's insurance (normally $7-20/month) before the company will let anyone ride with you. Of course, that only applies to company drivers. If you're an owner-operator, I guess you could take him along with you if you really wanted to!
