  1. Definitely.  Most environemental engineers are either civil engineers with a p**s poor understaning of chemistry or chemical engineers who care about the environment.  Most of the truly ground breaking environmental engineering work is being done by ChE's.  If you can't find an environmental focus in your ChE program find another program.  At the graduate level most ChE's actually focus on environmental work nowadays.  "Classical" ChE's are a minority.

    this is a branch of chemical engineering.


  3. Absolutely......that's what it is all about.......Turning the chemicals that are harmful and that you don't want into those that are acceptable and that you do want.

    It's almost impossible to get into the environmental field without a strong background in chemistry, unless you are designing equipment or writing regulations and specs, and then you still need some knowledge of  chemistry.
