Question:

Can I block specific URLs using AT&T UVerse?

I used to use a dlink wireless router with my cable modem and I could configure it to block specific domains. I just switched to AT&T UVerse which requires you to use their modem/router and I don't see any option to do this. I want to be able to block access to certain sites from all the computers on my home network. Can I do this with AT&T UVerse?

Thanks!

  1. XP

click start menu> click RUN > type

    cmd

in the run box hit enter

black window opens up , type

    ipconfig /all

details will come up in the screen

    under ethernet adapter/Local area connection

check the default gateway, note down the IP for it

mostly its 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 or 110.0.0.1 etc

put this IP on your browser( IE, Firefox , OPera ,Netscape)

i mean on the address bar of the browser. hit enter or go.

it will ask for a user name put it as admin

password can be left blank or put admin/password/password1

Now you are inside the router user interface. As every router supports

mac filtering, ip filtering, domain blocking etc

just try and browse inside that interface and find where its located and put in IP or URL to BLOCK.

save settings and power cycle router.

  2. Check with AT&T Uverse The 3800HGV that they are using does not have parental controls but they are available as are business controls.. I think if we ask and complain maybe they will make those available on the routers.  If you visit http://2wire.com you will see those as options for many units, it just isn't on ours!  Bummer.

You can also do what I did, I connected my other router behind the 2wire and all computers that I want filtered get connected through that router!

(Just don't use the same 192.168.1.x Lan range use something like 192.168.0.x - that is the default range for your Dlink)  Once you connect it, you will need to put the dlinks IP on the 2wire into the DMZ for the 2wire. It works great!
