  1. Glass is smooth water will not boil because the bubbles need something to latch onto, what you should do is stick a wooden skewer in the water, that way bubbles can form. As for using a glass kettle I have never used one but if it is made as a kettle you should be fine, though the trivet might mark it up a little if you are not careful.

  2. my sister gave me a glass tea kettle, but you weren't supposed to boil water in it.  You could steep tea in it, meaning you could put the tea leeves in the kettle and pour hot water over it and serve it.  You just couldn't boil water in it.  There is a chance it will crack from the boiling water.  it's best to use a kettle made for boiling water in.

  3. If you have an actual glass kettle then everything should be fine. I've never seen a glass kettle. About 10 years ago there is use to be a whole stop top collection on pots made of glass. Granted, they did not last long. They were a pain to clean. The idea was people would like to watch their peas cook and their noodles float . To play it safe I would start with warm tap water and keep on medium heat. It's like the cake pans and casserole pans you put in the oven. They never have a problem, yet the heat surrounds the pans as oppose to your kettle which is heat at the bottom.
