You're allowed one carry-on plus a handbag-type bag (messenger bag would probably qualify as this).

Restrictions on the carry-on are:

Wt max 10kg

Size max 50x40x25cm

If you purchased your tickets from a travel agent then that person should be happy able to find out all you need to know.

If you purchased them online then contact JAL.

JAL seems to be a little more lenient that most airlines about carry-on.  The flight attendants usually don't challenge you unless the bag is really oversized.  Even if you have two bags and there is no room in the overhead bin, the flight attendant will stow your bag somewhere on board and deliver it back to you before you de-plane.

You should call JAL at whatever airport you are going to. The weight limitations/ restrictions change constantly so its best to get an updated one from them rather than an outdated an incorrect one from asking here.
