We are traveling to Seattle and would like to bring fish back with us. Can we freeze it and carry it on the airplane with us in a small cooler?

  1. I freeze regular water bottles to use as ice - might want to open first, empty a little out of the bottle as water expands when it freezes and will crack the bottles.  A regular ice chest "sealed" with duct tape works for me.  But like the some one else mentioned, no "wet" ice that could leak.

When I bought fish in Seattle, they gave me a large "gel" pack that could be frozen with the fish.

If you have dry ice - I'd check with the airlines first. I think it's OK - but the outside of the package should be labeled "DRY ICE".

Since no liquids or gels can go through security - I'd plan on checking the fish.

  2. It will have to be checked in under the plane.

  3. You can bring it in a small cooler (not Styrofoam) but it needs to be packed properly. It should be frozen solid, wrapped in heavy plastic and sealed to prevent leakage. I'd advise using ice packs, like the blue ones you put in lunch boxes, rather than wet ice or dry ice. You can only bring a small amount of dry ice onboard (4.4lbs or less) and wet ice can leak.

  4. I don't think so..... sorry.

  5. Check with your airline but I very much doubt it.

  6. Yes, but check with the airlines to see what you can pack with it to keep it cold. I know you can't  use those freeze packs. maybe dry ice.
