Question:

Can I buff out the scratches on my saxophone somehow?

  1. Hi Tay.

    Sorry to say,  there is no way to buff out the scratches on your saxophone and could only make it worse.   Saxophones are made from brass and on top of that is a colored lacqued spray... on top of that is a clear lacquered top coat.  If you rub on the scratches, it only  polishes away the top coat and perhaps even the colored lacquer coat...  which in turn makes that area of the saxophone go dull.   There is nothing you can do that is cost effective.

    The one and only fix is to have the instrument disassembled and completely stripped of the coats of finish.  Then it can be relaquered and refinished... made like new.  But the cost would be perhaps close to $1000.00.  

    So I know that is disappointing news.....  but try to keep from getting any new scratches on it.
