Can I build a radio transmitter capable of transmitting over several blocks?

Is it hard/expensive/illegal to build and transmit?

There are several kits out that that allow you to build an AM or FM transmitter that would be good for several hundred yards, but much more than that would require a license.  IF you just want to communicate, FRS type radios are usually good for up to a mile in good open coinditions but usually less in city building areas.

Well if want to be a radio guy a pod cast is the way to go.  but  if you start doing searches on radio transmitters you will find a complete radio station in a box minus a antenna that will broadcast a few miles.  It would be illegal.  And you could be fined up the a$$ by the FCC.  I believe any thing over a (1watt)mile is illegal.  google   hobbytron
