Can I burn videos from my video camera to a cd-r?

It sounds crazy, but is it possible and if so how?

  1. Get the video into your computer, edit, in the editor, "Save As..." and select a file format with LOTS of compression. Burn the file to the CD.

    The video will look terrible when you play it back (full screen) because you had to apply so much compression... It might look OK in a one inch square (or smaller) window on your computer - but it depends how long the video clip is.

    Video compression = discarded video data = reduced video quality.

    CDs can hold only about 700 meg or 0.7 gig

    Single Layer DVDs hold 4.7 gig...

    Double Layer DVDs hold 8.5 gig...

    Since the DVDs have so much more capacity, they do not need to compress as much.


  2. yes it is called a video CD or VCD. you will have to convert the camera video to Mpeg1 format, so that will require a video editing program. some DVD players can play VCDs like a regular movie, although the resolution is low so it best viewed on smaller TVs or computer monitors.
