Hey I have a $500 car that I've been driving for a year now, but I can't drive it on big roads, and it breaks down a lot. I'm managed to save $2500 through the summer but I'm afraid it will just buy me another lemon. If my car breaks down I will have no way of getting to college which is 45 min away, or my job which is 25 min away (I live in the middle of nowhere) If I can hold out until feb. I can have another two grand to spend, but I'm afraid that my car will break down faster than that, so do you think I should try and wait til Feb, or try to find a good car for $2500?? I'm not too picky I just want to be able to drive on big roads safely.

  1. Well, that depends which country or province your living in right now. If you live in Canada, go to www.autotrader.ca, it has alot of used cars thats for sale. Heres a sugesstion for you, DONT BUY AMERICAN CARS, they break down alot after 100,000 km. If i were you, i would buy something like a Honda or Toyota. they save alot of fuel and you can drive up to 200,000-300,000 no problem. But is fairly expensive so i think you should save up some money first.

  2. I'd sell you my Jeep for that much! That's all im asking. :)

  3. $2500 is good enough for getting a prefectly working old car from lots of private sellers if you are not too picky about how good the car looks. Get a Honda/Toyota should be your best choice as they are more reliable. The important is about how to pick up the one that is still in good shape - no accident, no flood, good engine and transmission. Cars with scratches and costmics problem afacts big on selling price that is good for you if you don't care the "look".

The old cars usually have problems once a while as things are getting older. This is normal and kind of not avoidable. Your additional $2k is better in saving and getting ready to fix for problems. (Even you put $4k, it is an old car anyway.)
