  1. You can buy phones for as low as $40, as was said previously, but those phones will not work in the US, they will not receive calls until registered (takes about a week) and (as was said) they will be expensive to use. Try Mexitel Cellular (www.mexitel.net). They rent good phones that work everywhere in Mexico for less than it would cost to buy even the cheapest phone there, and are very cheap to use ($1 for 20 minutes calling the US, for example).

  2. Well, disposable is relative, but they do sell pre-paids in most cities. I believe that there is only one carrier in Mexico but I cannot recall the name. The phones are SIM card based though so you may be able to buy a cheap Ebay phone and just get a SIM card when you get there.

  3. nop but u can buy a cheap pre payed one or juss buy the chip so tht ur able 2 use ur own cell phone

  4. Yes, you can purchase a cheap phone with prepaid time.  The cost is usually about 40 dollars or so.  Telcel, which is the largest cell carrier in Mexico, is the most common vendor.  Note though, that cell time in Mexico is MUCH more expensive than in the US.

Go to any Sanbornes store located in all middle and large stores.  You can buy the phones there.  THere are also a number of Telcel stores in most strip malls in the country.

In many cases you may need to provide some identification to properly register the phone - however, many times they do not check or ask.

    Have a safe trip!
