Question:

Can I buy a health insurance plan that covers only emergencies?

I don't take any medications, see any doctors, nor will I ever. I use only alternative treatment. Insurance plans that cover complimentary medicine are out of my budget and I rarely need treatment anyway. Still, in the case of a car accident, roof falling on my head, heart attack, etc. I don't want to incur debt from an emergency room visit, which I could, right?

So does anybody offer plans that just cover a possible emergency? Or do I still have to pay for doctor's visits, medication, etc?

Perhaps I don't know how all of this works, please, somebody who knows, fill me in : )

  1. A high deductible plan with an HSA would be right for you. Contact an independant agent in your area that can explain it to you. You get the ability to pay for your alternative meds from a tax reduced base and a high deductible plan to cover you in case of catastrophy.

  2. I think what you are looking for is an HSA  type of plan. Doctors, prescriptions etc... are still covered but subject  to the deductible.  These plans can be very affordable, plus there are tax advantages.

  3. It sounds like you’re looking for what’s sometimes called a high-deductible plan.  Individually purchased health insurance plans with higher deductibles (say, from $2500 and up) often come with lower monthly payments.  Some of them are “bare bones” plans that may not cover things like checkups, prescriptions, or maternity care – but perhaps that doesn’t matter to you.  Instead, these plans usually cover things like hospitalization in case of serious injury or illness.  You’ll have to pay the deductible amount out of pocket before coverage kicks in, but it can still provide you with a valuable layer of financial protection given the high cost of medical care today.

If you’re really only looking for a little financial security out of a health insurance plan, then you might want to consider getting a health plan eligible for use with a Health Savings Account (HSA).  When used in conjunction with a qualifying high-deductible health plan, an HSA can provide you with some nice tax advantages and help you build up a tax-deferred savings account for the future.  You can even use tax-free funds in your account to pay for some non-traditional medical services that aren’t covered by a typical health insurance plan.

Since each state has its own health insurance market, your choices are going to vary a lot depending on where you live.  Your costs will also depend on your age and your medical history, in most states.

If you want to get an idea of what’s available in your area and learn more about HSAs, you can talk with a licensed agent or visit an online insurance agency like eHealthInsurance.com, where I work.  There are no extra fees involved when you work through an agent.  Through our website you can get free quotes, compare plans side by side, and apply for coverage online.  You can also talk with one of our licensed agents if you want personal assistance or advice.  The number is 1-800-977-8860.

  4. You don't want a plan that limits your treatment.  If you're prepared to pay most everything out of pocket then just jack up the deductible to $!0,000 (give or take) and the plan will cost you hardly anything (relatively speaking).  But, you'll still pick up network discount for small emergencies.

Insurance doesn't have to be expensive and it's never as expensive as when you don't have it and need it.

  5. "Nor will I ever"?  Boy are you naive!

  6. You can get catastrophic health insurance, also called major medical.  It will cover hospital stays, ER visits, xrays etc. It does not cover dr's visits, prescription and that sort.

Deductibles start pretty low, $250-500  but can be much higher. The specifics of monthly cost, deductibles, coverage and will depend on the ins company, the policy, age, where you live, and all the other little bits of information insurance companies love to dig for.

Blue cross offers one called Essentials in some areas. Most major ins companies probably do as well, even some smaller ones do, you will need to see who has one that fits you best. Not all insurance companies cover all states.

  7. Try this one - http://healthplans.my-age.net - I personally have their health insurance. As I know they provide such emergency insurance with low monthly payments.

  8. It Sounds like you are really screwed up by this problem. Hope you could get good luck here.http://car-insurance.online-helpers.info...
