Can I buy a motorola DCT3416 cable box from ebay and use it with Charter cable?

I see a lot of Cable boxes from Comcast and other providers, I just wan to know if they can be used if I have Charter. Is there any limitiations? All I want to use is ht eDVR part of the box.

no the cable boxes you see on ebay are stolen because when you are done with them they are suppose to be returned to the cable company
