Yes. Cheapest i could find was $255 mid-week

google "grabaseat" to get best fare, but this can't be done from the airline desk at the airport, only on the net, because by the time you do it at the airport internet kiosk, only the normal priced seats will be available.

You'll  have to do it in advance.

Omigosh, do you mean if you turned up and travelled on the same day?

If you are going in winter you can pay over $500 ONE WAY for a last minute ticket. Book in advance. But, if you don't remember to check qantas for flights to queenstown as well as Air NZ.
