I've heard that I can still call 911 from my landline as long as it is hooked up to a phone jack even though I don't subscribe to a phone service. Is this true?

  1. On landlines you cannot make a call without a dial tone. . .

  2. i know it works on disconnected cellphones. that's why you keep one.

  3. all I know that in Florida, yes you can!! I don't have a land line, but I still get a dial tone to make 911 calls....I think they did it for a the elderly ppl we got living here! We all pay for this special service with more taxes in our phone bill...I don't know about other States...

  4. You generally need a dial tone to make a call. However if your land line phone has a pulse tone to it, you might ask if a free emergency line is available in your area. I am not sure if phone companies are still using that system. I suggest looking for a phone repairperson working somewhere in you community. When you see them, ask them how to make an emergency call without a dial tone. I know for sure that they have a way of doing it. Any telephone repairperson on Yahoo Answers ???
