Can I call this number for free on Skype?

For privacy reasons I won't give whole phone number, but its a USA phone number and it starts like +1347..... I live in Edinburgh in Scotland in the United Kingdom and I got Skype and stuff and heard you can call landlines for free but would I be able to call this number for free? any help appreciated thanks! Liam X

  2. Calling landlines or cells/mobiles from Skype is not free.

    Skype-to-Skype calls are free, but not Skype-to-landlines.

    To call landlines, you need to purchase Skype Credites to make SkypeOut calls.  Or purchase Skype Unlimited for $2.95/month.   Then, all calls to landlines/mobiles is "free" (as some people like to refer to prepaid unlimited calling).

    In the UK, they also tack VAT tax onto all purchases/prices.

    Yes, dialing 1-x*x-x*x-xxxx should work to USA/Canada numbers over Skype.

    If you want free calling from your PC to landlines in the USA/Canada, then give EarthCaller a try (by Jaduka Labs).

    It is completely free while in Beta development phase.  And in EarthCallers case, free means... no money and no credit cards.
