I know that it isn't safe to carry credit cards with a magnetic money clip, but is it safe for me to carry my cell phone or PDA in the same pocket as one?

  1. Yes its fine to carry them together.  Magnets only effect disk style drives, not the flash memory that phones and PDAs use.  Magnets also have no effect on LCD screens.  I included a link to a product that is designed for cell phones with a magnet for reassurance.

*To one of the other posters- Magnets will damage CRT/Tube style screens, but not cell phone screens.

Nextag has hundreds of magnetic holders for cell phones.  Would those really be available if they damaged cell phones????

  2. Don't do it.

Because on day we were playing with rock magnets around the tv and it messed up the entire screen color on it.

And then my friend was playing with them and it shut off her phone everytime it got too close.

  3. I wouldn't do it.

My friend put her hotel room swip key thing in her cell phone to store it.. the phone ended up erasing the swip key and she couldn't get in her room.

The phone and they money clip are the same, they are both pretty powerful.

I wouldn't try it, you might mess up the phone.

Stick the phone in your back pocket instead [:

  4. You shouldn't do it.

    It would probably stick.

    So don't try it.

  5. You'll be okay, as far as your info being safe. the money clip won't scramble or erase your info. But the money clip will drain your battery slightly faster. I work in retail, around the magnetic, pads/electromagnet de-activators used to de-activate SensorMatic tags and SensorSoft tags. Our Loss Prevention Department warned us that the magnets used will drain our phone batteries faster than normal. I noticed that my phone does lose 1 or 2 battery bars more on the days I work, than on my days off. But my info is secure.

Bear in mind that I work around extremely powerful magnets. I doubt your money clip has the same degree of "pull" that the industrial magnets have. I think your phone will be fine around the money clip.
